Smoky BBQ pork skewers paired with a Chilean Leyda Valley Syrah 🍷

Wine and grilling are probably up there in my top list of favourite things, and so naturally they also go hand in hand. This wine is fresh, and from a cooler climate, so pairs well with this dish! Can you tell I love skewers? So easy to make and delicious for sharing. I’ve paired the bbq pork skewers with the new Viña Leyda Reserva Syrah 2019 @leydawines -- and another plus is that it has a screw cap! More and more winemakers are taking on the switch from cork to screw cap, so don’t ever be put off by it as it doesn’t reflect the quality of the wine.

Ingredients: (makes 3 skewers - I use stainless steel 20cm skewers)
3 pork shoulder steaks, cubed
½ red onion, cut into 2cm pieces
1 sweet pointed red pepper, cut into 2cm pieces
1 tsp of: garlic granules, onion granules, smoked paprika powder
5 tbsp your favourite bbq sauce
+ pinch of salt before seasoning & olive oil for grilling

Heat up your grill or BBQ. Skewer your pork, red onion & pointed peppers, Sprinkle with garlic, onion and paprika powder, drizzle in olive oil or grease your grill. Pop on the grill (or BBQ) for about 4 minutes or until fully cooked, and juicy. It took mine about 4-5 minutes, but this all depends on your grill heat, and whether you have the lid down, so keep an eye on them. When ready, brush on your BBQ sauce before serving.

Viña Leyda Reserva Syrah 2019 is available at Co-op and is the perfect wine to pair with your BBQ meats this summer! (Plus it’s only £10!) The wine reflects and respects the varietal identity: expressive, direct, fresh and juicy with great aromatic intensity, revealing its cool-climate character and it’s from the most awarded coastal winery of Chile.
