Crunchy, herby & golden sourdough croutons
Crunchy, herby & golden sourdough croutons! ✨
I love bread! I love toast and I cannot get enough of croutons, I could eat them on their own all day. This is a great way to use up any bread that may be going off, or just to make delicious, crunchy and flavourful croutons! Also I have a fun tip to share, so check the end of the recipe 🥰
Ingredients: (makes about 1-2 cups croutons)
2-4 slices of bread (I used sourdough), cubed
1 good glug of olive oil (to coat lightly)
2-3 tbsp Italian herb seasoning
2 tsp sea salt
1 tbsp ground pepper
Preheat your oven to 200c fan. Pop your bread cubes into a baking tray as flat as possible. If your bread is slightly stale, this process may be easier! Drizzle your olive oil over the bread lightly, add the seasoning, salt and pepper, and toss all together until everything is combined and covered thoroughly. Make sure that when you add your olive oil there is not so much that it lines the bottom of the tray, you just want it to entirely cover each bread cube after they’ve been tossed together. Pop the tray in the oven and check on the croutons and give them a little toss, every 4 to 5 minutes. Mine took about 20 minutes until they started to turn golden, but every oven is different so just keep checking.
My secret little tip is that as they are just starting to turn color (for me after about 20mins), you can turn your oven off and leave them to sit for about 5-10 mins so that they don’t burn. Check as you have been but this will slow their colour changing. Store them in an airtight container, and they should last you at minimum a few days.
