Ham & cheese Christmas tree pastries paired with a gorgeous red Bordeaux wine
Warm up this holiday season with ham & cheese Christmas tree pastries paired with a gorgeous red Bordeaux wine!
Bordeaux is a region close to my heart, as we have family friends there, and I went on a wine tasting trip there with my friend Emily a couple of years ago now, so whenever I can, I always look to have a bottle from the region.
Bordeaux Wines are partnering with independent wine merchants across the country to offer bespoke Bordeaux Christmas cases for this festive season, filled with the perfect selection of wine for your own holiday celebration or as a gift.
I’ve popped the recipe for these delicious canapés below, and pop to my stories for the link for more details on these bespoke Bordeaux wine cases as they make the perfect pair.
Ingredients: 2 pre-made puff pastry, rolled out
120g finely sliced honey roast ham
1⁄2 cup finely grated gruyere cheese
1 egg, whisked 1 tsp dried parsley
Preheat your oven to 210c fan, and get out a baking tray to line with parchment paper. On one puff pastry rolled out, place your sliced ham, then layer over your grated gruyere and with the other pastry, lay it on top (forming a large sandwich). Cut out 4-5 Christmas trees with a knife or using a large cookie cutter. You can either then brush on the egg wash and sprinkle your parsley and pop into the oven straightaway, or cut out the branches (shown in my stories if you want to see a step-by-step) and twist so as to make branches. Then egg wash, dried parsley sprinkle & into the oven. These only need about 10-12 minutes in the oven until they are golden brown and the cheese has melted, so be sure to keep an eye on them! Enjoy while warm with a glass of Bordeaux wine, I’ve gone for one from Saint-Émilion which is where I went on my wine tasting trip and is now one of my favourite places in the wine area of Bordeaux.
